Sugar & Spice!
Myra (Sugar), and Velma (Spice) Glover were born into a family of performers.
Their mother, the late Blues/Soul singer Loretta Glover, began singing in the church as a youngster along with her sisters. As teens, Loretta and her sisters joined the gospel group “Goldie Thompson and the Teenagers”. Loretta became a well-known Blues/Soul singer, who performed with Tampa Bay’s own Gene Hardage (aka Sarasota Slim). She also shared the stage with the likes of O.V. Write, and Little Milton.
Sugar & Spice first came into their own as the lead singers of “The Rhythm Revue”. Tampa Tribune entertainment writer Michael Dunn wrote of the Rhythm Review: “This 8-piece ensemble has grown into one of the bay areas most compelling ask, brandishing a mixture of blues, soul and R&B that will knock your socks off!”.
Both sisters decided to make music the next chapter of their lives after choosing to retire from the respective professions. Myra was a professional driver, traveling many times across the US and Canada while commanding an 18 wheeler. Velma is a retired Hillsborough County law enforcement officer.
They are now lead singers of The Souliz Band as they strive to bring you the best blues, soul, funk, and rock ‘n roll that your dancing feet have ever seen!
Sugar is the sweet, shy and soft-spoken one of the duo whose voice is reminiscent of Loretta’s.
Spice brings the energy and excitement of Tina Turner, and when she sings her rendition of Aretha’s “Natural Woman” or “Respect”, you know even Aretha would approve.
